Reasons for recommending: It is very, very, very rare that I like reading about original characters in fic, not because I think they're all Mary Sues, though that is often the case, but simply because usually I want to read fanfic for the characters, and not the universe. This, however, is one of the few exceptions, and I wouldn't have ever read it if it weren't for someone else's rec, simply because I would have seen the "OMC" and passed it by.

I am so glad I didn't. It really doesn't have much of a Star Wars-y feel to it, to me. Obi is mindwiped, so there's not much Jedi action going on. What it is is a really good m/m sci-fi story with very hot sex.

I love the narrator. So often the slave!Obi stories are told from the slave's POV, so this is a nice change of pace.

Reasons for recommending: One of the things that really bug me about Q/O is the proliferation of WeepyTeenagedGirl!Obi-Wan. *shudder* I'd much rather read stories where Obi-Wan is actually a Jedi: hard working, brave, knowing for the most part what needs to be done. Having said that, I'm also a fan of stories where Obi-Wan comes into his own because Qui-Gon has somehow been incapacitated (oddly enough, I include The Apprentice Master in that category). He may not do everything perfectly but in the end he proves himself capable.

In Mos C'ethra a young Obi-Wan is thrust into a horrific situation and help is weeks away. He has to do the best that he can and make impossibly difficult choices to deal with the situation, one in which it seems no decision can be the right one.
