Warnings: To all intents, a death story, though I am not certain if the author intended to tinker with events in later works.
Reasons for recommending:
Other than because its brilliant? Well, it tears me up every time I read it; its lyrical, beautiful and I want to write that good when I grow up. And it was her first every story. Umm. Shoot her now. I can't describe it, really, just go read.
Quote from the story:
Only the details of that meeting are crystal clear before me, as if it happened last night. Yoda's ears trembling, his small hands closing tightly around his gimmer stick. Windu steepleing his hands the way he always does when gathering his thoughts, staring right trough me, then suddenly looking away. Poof's pale head swinging to and fro on his thin long neck. Like a pendulum in a clock, ticking away time. The soft ringing sound of Bilaba's bangles as she covered her traditionally braided hair with the hood of her robe. It was all so beautiful, so stretched in the moment.
But it did not touch me. Not anymore.
Whatever they said to me that night, whatever words of comfort they offered, whatever orders they gave, it did not matter. My truth was different.
I had seen you die.

Date: 2004-07-07 08:00 am (UTC)i am honoured that you cherish it. strange how stories can take hold of your heart. i was always very fond of your "control and expreiment".
to answer your question wheter or not i intented to "fix" the death - dead is dead. but it was meant to be a longer arch of 20 to 30 companion pieces from two mirror universes, where both qui and obi die, each in on respective mirror. it was a long time ago.
maybe i should take out the folder with notes and figures and graphs. it was quite an elaborate universe i sketched out. cheerfully ignoring/denying the existence of episode one. that trade conflict always seemd too trivial a reason to trigger the downfall of both the republic and the jedi.
reading this piece today, i cringe in embarrassment. really. it suffers from too many adjectives, among other things. also, having recently lost my mother, the depiction of mourning rings hollow.
i really should start over with this. such a good murder mystery lies dormant in there. but dead IS dead.
thank you for recommending this.
