Reasons for recommending: Um...they're hot. But it's like, I laughed when Ruth and Hil first wrote these. I read them thinking they were going to be humor. And they're not. They're serious and they're so fucking hot. Roleplay is hard to write well, but this is an excellent example of how to do it. The slipping in and out of roles really works.

Could you say some more about why you like these stories? Because I just don't get it. Yet I know lots of people who love them.

Well, for one thing, frottage (er...minus the bear, obviously) is a huge kink of mine that doesn't get the attention it should in slash. So that's already a big point in its favor.

Then we have the whole roleplay thing. I like the scenario with the virgin padawan better than Daddy and Princess, but both are hot. The shame is so good. Mmm...shame...

Really, the bear is the least of it. The bear could go and these would still be a couple of the hottest fics I've ever read.

Sorry I'm not more coherent, but it's always hard to explain why something is hot or not. ^_^;;

So the roleplay is a big thing for you? I think I'm just too analytical for that.

Or maybe it's the fact that I'm not really into smut for smut's sake. I'm drawn to a story primarily by the characters and their relationships. So if those characters are role-playing, maybe that's precisely why I'm not interested in it - because I'm interested in the real characters and their real relationship. Maybe if a reader enjoys smut for its own sake, she's more interested in the variety of ways that smut plays out? Ergo the interest in role-playing?

I'm just speculating. Agree or disagree, I would love to hear more if you care to continue the conversation!

I suppose I would like it better if it were part of a larger story, but even just as it is there is enough to see their relationship, little bits woven throughout the stories. But I like the psychological aspect of the roleplaying. For example, the second fic, with the virgin padawan story, that would have been cool as an actual Q/O scenario when Obi was a padawan, but the way it's done through the roleplay adds so many other layers. For one, it's Qui playing the padawan, and there's the whole...thinking process going on as they get into the roles. This is why I say roleplaying is really hard to do well, because what I like about it is all the psychological stuff going on, and if it were just the porn, with no accompanying thoughts, it wouldn't be interesting at all.

Cool. :D Not sure if there's anywhere we can work it in Est or SK at the moment, but what about VG era Est backstory? I'm also up for entirely new universes.
