Title: To Tell the Truth
Author: Mac
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Q/O
Warnings:
Mac warns for violence; I wouldn't have.

Author's e-mail, web site and/or LJ id: Email: connie23@iprimus.com.au; website: The Alternative: http://home.iprimus.com.au/amacker/; lj name: [livejournal.com profile] ausmac

Reasons for recommending: I want you to go to Mac's webpage, and just look how many stories she's written in this fandom. Now I want you to consider how long it took me to find this little one again. And how painful it was, as my duty, to read through the others to get to it - lucky it begins with a T :).
Quick plot summary: a mission goes awry, and Obi-Wan has to cope with a wounded Qui-Gon, who makes an unlikely confession. It's always been one of my favourites of Mac's, and oddly enough that's because of its tone. Though billed as Hurt/Comfort, there's no wallowing in angst: both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan have an ironic, almost self-mocking touch which just makes their hidden emotions, glimpsed through their understated expressions, all the more poignant.
Quote from story:
One of the security officers, the only one not dead or injured, came over to me and sat on his haunches, looked down at Qui-Gon. “I’m sorry about your friend .. . .”

“He isn’t dead yet!” I snapped, aware of the anger that still swirled around my mind, mingled with the fear.

“I mean I’m sorry he was hurt.” He seemed surprised by the outburst and I realised I must look a sight, my hands red with blood, probably wild-eyed and very uninhibited for a Jedi.

“I’m sorry, I’m a little . . .distracted."

Extra comments:

I think I love it most for this single line, which I have envied Mac for ages:
Having an orgasm while recovering from a stab wound defines the term “exquisite pain”.

You know what's really tragic - I couldn't remember it. I had to go back and reread it.

It's mental decline, that's what it is.

Unfortunately, no, it's not, because I suffer from the same damn thing.

Sib, we'll just grow old and forgetful together. I hear you can buy stick-on liver spots now.

Mac forgot about a little humor piece she wrote a long time ago. I recced it years ago, and she either didn't remember it, or said I had attributed it to her wrongly, because she didn't write it. One of the two. As you can tell, my memory is like a rusty steel trap.

GH, you are welcome to come live with Mac and me at the Old Folks Home for Retired Slash Writers. All the orderlies are built and the dress code requires them to go shirtless.

ROFL and spits out her false teeth. Yes, well, what can one do. I adore Glory for reccing it (I am a total ego slut, I adore being recced) but its a sadly true fact that aside from half a dozen of my stories that have special personal significance, after about 100 stories in a fandom, many of them do begin to fade together. Hence Glory's and GH's message. What's really bad is when you write something under another pen name and then forget you used a penname.....

Which is why I'll NEVER use a pen name. I have enough trouble keeping me straight; keeping multiple mes under control would be far more than I could handle.

And I've only reached about 70 stories or so. Hmm. Gonna have to start writing faster... :-)
