reccer's note: Due to serious Real Life problems last Friday, I missed my rec. I should be able to make it up this week.

reccer's note2: This week's rec is in honor of [livejournal.com profile] bant's birthday. What more could one want than a good death rec? But seriously, happy, happy birthday, fish girl!

Hello campers, TGIF! Your "Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me" recommendation follows directly. Remember that you have to clean up all that confetti you're throwing!

Title: Like So Much Dust
Author: The Emu
Rating: R for sex
Pairing: Q/Other and Q/O
Summary: After the death of his lover, Qui-Gon tries to imagine how he could ever live alone.
Warnings: Character death.

Author's e-mail: emu@virginqueen.com
Website: The Emu does not like to have her site linked to, however I obtained permission to link to the story: http://www.zip.com.au/~emu/tpm/somdust.html
LJ id: [livejournal.com profile] the_emu

Reasons for recommending: Although I prefer the OTP, I often indulge in O/Other fic. I like to read stories about Obi's first lovers, etc. I've always had less of an interest in Qui's early years. This story is a wonderful exception. I read it when it was posted towards the end of the "flashback" period and then waited a year before commenting. I was curious about the ending. I asked Emu a question about Qui-Gon's thoughts, and she said she wasn't sure what he was thinking. I love that. You'll see what I'm talking about. This story, to me has that OTP feeling, but not in the way I expected. Others may disagree.

There's no way this piece is only 16K - it reads longer.

All missions would be taken on his own, now. Every lone mission would bring him back to this silent room.

"I'm near fifty years old, Reniius, and I have never been alone. I built myself on him. I don't know how to begin."

Thank you, Glasshouses

I love this story. Emu has a knack for looking at things from a unique point of view. Which is why I wish she'd write more.

But you know me, I love bittersweet. It hurts sooo good.

Thanks for the birthday rec!
