[personal profile] thalia posting in [community profile] tpm_flashback
Sorry for the hiatus; I got a bit distracted. Just a little.

We have four volunteers for the next round; I'm hoping we'll be able to start up tomorrow. I'll post the schedule as soon as they've all confirmed that they're still good to go.

It might be time to start thinking about the future of this community. Due to its nature, I'm not expecting that it will be able to run forever in its current form, and it might be time to consider whether it should continue, and, if so, how. I'll post later this week with some ideas, but meanwhile, if you feel like talking about it, feel free to comment.

Meanwhile, I thought I'd add a rec, since I've never done one before here [g]:

Reasons for recommending: I was reminded about this story recently when I discovered that [livejournal.com profile] meri_oddities was the Meridian who'd written in TPM--and boy did I feel silly for not figuring that out sooner. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan meet at Amidala's wedding, six years after Naboo, where Qui-Gon managed not to die. Qui-Gon makes some assumptions that he really shouldn't. Things happen. It's not a long story, but it's well-constructed, and it always makes me smile.

Quote from story:

Obi-Wan bowed and moved to the side of the dance floor. Qui-Gon stood regally a few feet away, and he sucked in a breath at how good his ex-Master looked right at that moment. Tall and straight, Qui-Gon was magnificent, like a lion at ease, ready to strike at any time, but for the moment, relaxed. His power and presence easily eclipsed everyone in the room and Obi-Wan wanted nothing more that to slide his hands over the soft fabric of the Jedi formal robes, touching and caressing the big raw-boned body. Unfortunately, that would have to wait until he received an invitation to do so.

"Dance?" he asked, holding out his hand to Qui-Gon.

To his surprise, Qui-Gon shook his head and bowed slightly. "I'm sorry Obi-Wan, I'm fatigued. As a matter of fact, I have only been waiting for Amidala and Anakin to leave the floor before saying good night." He nodded towards the couple. "Since they don't look like they will be doing so any time soon, I'll just say goodnight."

Are you thinking that with the current format there will be less and less recs from contributors (since there are only so many good fics)? I think the most logical solution would be changing the format to allow posting access for all members. And if someone happens upon a good story they can come rec at any time.

Whatever you decide, I would definitely like to see this comm continue.

I second jadyn's sentiments that I'd like to see the community continue. I think it would ultimately make sense to open it to all as jadyn suggested. There's no way I could commmit to doing a rec every week, but it would be nice to have the option to post one when time permits. I love the community and it would be nice if it's more informal and thus places no pressure particularly on anyone.

I know I owe recs, Thalia - I intend to start posting them again after I get settled from my move, if that is okay.

I am relatively new to this community, but I love it. Thank you for creating it. I hope it continues in some form. I would be interested in submitting some recs either on the schedule or more informally, if you opt to go that way. Cheers!

I think the option of opening it for general contribution is a good one - but I would consider the proviso of making posts moderated. that way you can (a) check and make sure they aren't reccing something already done and (b) not being so crass as to recommend their own stuff. That way you could invite membership, and invite active participation. You could also consider weeks of themed recommendations - ie, recommend your favorite death fic or your favorite kink story or whatever.
