status update and bonus rec
Feb. 14th, 2005 01:30 pmSorry for the hiatus; I got a bit distracted. Just a little.
We have four volunteers for the next round; I'm hoping we'll be able to start up tomorrow. I'll post the schedule as soon as they've all confirmed that they're still good to go.
It might be time to start thinking about the future of this community. Due to its nature, I'm not expecting that it will be able to run forever in its current form, and it might be time to consider whether it should continue, and, if so, how. I'll post later this week with some ideas, but meanwhile, if you feel like talking about it, feel free to comment.
Meanwhile, I thought I'd add a rec, since I've never done one before here [g]:

Reasons for recommending: I was reminded about this story recently when I discovered that
meri_oddities was the Meridian who'd written in TPM--and boy did I feel silly for not figuring that out sooner. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan meet at Amidala's wedding, six years after Naboo, where Qui-Gon managed not to die. Qui-Gon makes some assumptions that he really shouldn't. Things happen. It's not a long story, but it's well-constructed, and it always makes me smile.
Quote from story:
Obi-Wan bowed and moved to the side of the dance floor. Qui-Gon stood regally a few feet away, and he sucked in a breath at how good his ex-Master looked right at that moment. Tall and straight, Qui-Gon was magnificent, like a lion at ease, ready to strike at any time, but for the moment, relaxed. His power and presence easily eclipsed everyone in the room and Obi-Wan wanted nothing more that to slide his hands over the soft fabric of the Jedi formal robes, touching and caressing the big raw-boned body. Unfortunately, that would have to wait until he received an invitation to do so.
"Dance?" he asked, holding out his hand to Qui-Gon.
To his surprise, Qui-Gon shook his head and bowed slightly. "I'm sorry Obi-Wan, I'm fatigued. As a matter of fact, I have only been waiting for Amidala and Anakin to leave the floor before saying good night." He nodded towards the couple. "Since they don't look like they will be doing so any time soon, I'll just say goodnight."
